Hangzhou – SUNHOO Design Park

Hangzhou – SUNHOO Design Park, 2012

The artist residency took place in August 2012 at SUNHOO Design Park, in a rural area near the city of Hangzhou, China.

The unique feature of this residency was that it was located within a city under construction, surrounded by numerous empty buildings: the residency itself was set up on several floors of a building-construction site where the organisation had set up accommodation and catering areas.

During my month-long stay, I conducted a survey of rural soundscapes and construction sites, which led to the documentary and project I’m because you are, a concept that later became a common thread applied to my other artistic investigations and performance projects. The residency, which hosted artists from around the world, concluded with a public presentation in Hangzhou.
