16 soglie di fuga

Multichannel Sound Installation, 2019

16 Soglie di fuga is an immersive multichannel installation composed of 32 micro-speakers embedded within a tunnel woven from cotton thread, suspended above an urban staircase.

The structure — reminiscent of a web or a neural network — creates a sonic corridor that the audience is invited to pass through. This is not a neutral space. It is a field of forces.

The installation transforms a simple urban passageway into a perceptual experience. To encounter the work, one must descend. The body moves vertically while sound unfolds horizontally, diagonally, in depth. Sixteen sonic lines of flight intersect, diverge, and recombine in space.
The audio material is heterogeneous and constantly shifting:
– poetic voices
– fragments of everyday life
– natural and urban soundscapes
– micro-acoustic events that emerge and dissolve

There is no privileged listening position. Each step alters the composition. Every location generates a different sonic architecture.

The web is not merely a physical structure; it acts as a metaphor for connection and tension. The small loudspeakers become nodes within an invisible network that envelops the listener’s body, making it an active component of the work.

16 Soglie di fuga questions the notion of urban transit by transforming a place of passage into a space of listening. The staircase ceases to be infrastructure and becomes an instrument.
