Lupo di terra

Lupo di terra
interactive sound installation

Concept Alessandro Olla
Illustrations Eva Rasano

Lupo di terra (Land Wolf) is a sensory and interactive journey designed for children aged 3 to 6, inviting them to explore the world through sound, touch, movement, and imagination — the entire narrative revolves around the Wolf character, created and illustrated by Eva Rasano.

The project unfolds across seven independent environments, connected by small paths that guide the audience through a landscape of perception and wonder. Each space offers a different experience: hidden sounds, vibrations, amplified objects, scents, and echoes to play with.

The installation was created for the Tuttestorie Festival in Cagliari (October 10–13, 2019), in collaboration with the students of Electronic Music at the Cagliari Conservatory.

In its ideal form, Lupo di terra consists of seven autonomous modules enclosed within 4×4 m structures, though it can also be adapted into a single exhibition space of about 30 m², preserving the original variety of sonic, tactile, and olfactory experiences.

The installations

A World of Sounds
A large tactile sound painting with 24 sensitive points integrated into the wolves’ illustrations.
By touching or approaching the surface, hidden sounds are activated — a playful dialogue between gesture and resonance.

Earthquake
Five vibrating boxes form a miniature seismic landscape: motors, springs, and a small humming volcano generate a choreography of sounds and tremors.

Everything I Touch Sounds
Everyday objects — a cup, a spoon, a comb — are amplified to reveal their inner voice.
A discovery of the secret sound of ordinary things.

Rain of Sounds
A passageway filled with hanging strings and bells that move with the body, turning each step into an immersive acoustic shower.

The Echo Well
A papier-mâché well that returns one’s voice transformed — as if echoed by a tiny imaginary creature hidden inside.

Throw the Ball
Three suspended metal plates resonate when struck, producing sounds reminiscent of thunder, rain, and caves — a direct encounter with sound as matter.

Storm of Scents
A garden of aromatic plants and small hanging sachets filled with dried herbs.
An ever-changing olfactory landscape that varies with seasons and location.

Lupo di terra transforms listening into play, the body into an instrument, and sound into living matter. It offers an immersive and poetic experience where children learn to listen to the world with all their senses.
